Roger Lee Krull, 75, passed away peacefully at the Kavanagh Hospice House in West Des Moines on Thursday, October 12, 2023, with his wife and family by his side. He was born to George and Anna (Meyer) Krull on August 17, 1948, in Waterloo, Iowa. He attended country school near Fern, Iowa until he was in second grade. He continued his schooling in Dike, Iowa and graduated in 1966. Roger earned his degree in Drafting Design at Iowa State University then enrolled at Mankato State College in Mankato, Minnesota. He graduated in December 1970 with a degree in Business Administration.
Roger made many life-long friends while at Mankato State: Denny Wessells, Duane Steele, David Moore, and Dale Bergman (his childhood friend). They have enjoyed a lifetime of outings and reunions. However, the highlight of these college years was meeting the love of his life Barbara in April 1970. Roger and Barbara were married on July 15, 1972.
Following college, Roger accepted a job with United Suppliers in Eldora, Iowa, in April 1971. He worked for United Suppliers and saw the company grow from 15 employees to more than 200. He retired as Controller 43 years later in 2014.
Roger greatly enjoyed fishing. Each year he took weeklong fishing trips to Canada with his close friends Jim Michaelson and Kevin Stalzer. He had many happy memories on the waters of Gullrock Lake.
Roger and Barbara raised 3 handsome and wonderful sons: Eric was born Christmas Eve 1975; Mike was born in the heat of the summer in August 1977; and Ryan was born in the spring of April 1982. Roger was very proud of his boys and devoted quality time to them. A weekend did not pass without Roger and the boys enjoying the outdoors together. He took them fishing at Pine Lake and the Iowa river. They also had many adventures camping and fishing by the creek at Barbara’s great uncle’s farm. In the summer after supper, Roger would play catch with Eric, Mike, Ryan and our neighbor Chad. His sons fondly remember the many “walks and talks” around Pine Lake and a nearby gas station. He attended all of his son’s school events: baseball games, cold track meets, cross country meets, plays, and concerts. Roger was proud of his sons!
Roger is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara, now of West Des Moines and 3 sons. Eric (Kerstin) and their daughters Olivia and Eleonora of Golden Valley, Minnesota; Mike and his son Hogan of Panora, Iowa; and Ryan (Abby) and their daughters Emilia and Harper of Des Moines, Iowa. He is also survived by his brother Donald Krull of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and sister Neva (Glen) Hockemeyer of Grundy Center, Iowa; 7 nieces, 5 nephews and several great nieces and nephews. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, sister-in-law and 2 great nieces.
