Roger Alan Lundy, known to many as Rog, papa, dad, coach, and "Big Cat", passed unexpectedly at St. Francis Hospital on October 30, 2023 in Indianapolis, IN at the age of 62.
Roger is survived by his wife, Denise Lundy of Greenwood, IN; son, Peter (Abby) Lundy of Logansport, IN; son, Conner Lundy and companion Britney Fisher of Whiteland, IN; daughter, Paige Lundy of Greenwood, IN; brother, Steve (Kathy) Lundy of Vancouver, WA; grandchildren, Izzy and Graeme Lundy of Logansport, Jason Fisher of Whiteland, Geoffrey Lundy of Whiteland, and Sabel Lundy of Greenwood; in-laws, Al and Bonnie LaPorte of Wausau, WI; step-mother, Deborah Lundy of Denton, TX; along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Lundy of Denton, TX, and mother, Connie Lundy of Whiteland, IN.
Roger was born on December 9, 1960 in Lansing, MI to Richard and Connie Lundy. He was a 1979 graduate of D.C. Everest High School in Schofield, WI where he played football, basketball, and was a member of the 1979 state finalist golf team. After high school he went on to graduate from Ferris State University in 1983 with a degree in business marketing with a minor in professional golf management. Roger married Denise, his high school sweetheart in 1981. Over 11 years, the couple welcomed three children into their home. In 1981, he began what would be a 42-year career in the golf industry with stops in Auburn, IN, Wabash, IN, and Franklin, IN. For the past 20 years he worked for the Indiana Golf Foundation overseeing the Gongaware Golf Academy in Franklin and as First Tee Director for Indiana's southern district since 2017. His family remembers him as a kind, gentle, patient, funny, silly, passionate husband, dad, and papa who encouraged them to pursue their dreams.
Roger was skilled at teaching the game of golf. Some would consider him a master, even calling him the "swing doctor". Roger's other hobby was working as, what he would call, an amateur woodworker; skills he acquired from his father Richard. His greatest passion was teaching and coaching. He spent many days in a gym, on a ball field, and on a golf course making a positive impact in the lives of not only his children, but the lives of so many others.
This passion for coaching attracted him to the collegiate level. From 1994-2004 he coached the men's and women's programs for Manchester College (University). In 2007 he began his current role as head women's coach at Franklin College and he also coached FC's men's team from 2009-2015. He was a generous individual who loved his family, friends, college players, and co-workers and who was passionate about helping anyone learn the game of golf and the game of life. He was an active and dedicated member of the PGA of America and Indiana Section PGA. He served on the Indiana Section PGA Board of Directors from 1984 serving as secretary, vice president, and president from 1993-1994 and he often volunteered his teaching talents to help disabled veterans through PGA Hope.
There will be an open house celebration of life scheduled for Sunday, November 19, 2023 from 12-4 p.m. in the Branigin Room on the campus of Franklin College. Franklin College Chaplain Hannah Ingram will begin at noon with a word of prayer, and as friends gather "The Story of Roger" a short, lighthearted tale, told by his eldest son Pete will follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Roger's life anytime between 12 and 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Franklin College Women's Golf Program https://franklingrizzlies.com/sports/2022/8/15/donate.aspx (Gallery Club - Women's Golf).
The family would like to thank his dedicated and compassionate caregivers and staff at St. Francis Hospital for their efforts and care.
The family would also like to thank everyone who has reached out through your phone calls, texts, Facebook posts, visits, financial contributions, and meals, remembering our beloved Rog, dad, papa, coach, and "Big Cat".

Roger was a great mentor to many including my son , Scott, when he was at Greenhurst in Auburn and became a true friend ! Sincere sympathy to his entire family.

There are a lot of folks who can teach a kid how to swing a golf club, but I don´t know of a nicer guy than Roger. He spent as much time talking to my son Noah about making good choices and about the importance of taking school seriously. I was caddying for my son one day, as he worked on his short game on a Par 3 course in Franklin when Roger walked up and handed me a sticker regarding the dangers of texting and driving. I guess it was a topic he brought up often with older kids he taught. He knew my son had a 16th birthday coming up and said"Will, you´ll need this". You will be missed Roger. Glad I looked you up early this year. RIP

I was very young when I first met Roger "Big Cat" Lundy. He and my father worked (and played) together at Greenhurst CC in Auburn, IN. He was my first and only golf instructor. My first boss. Roger was always a blast to be around, great with us as junior golfers and a true blessing for the game. I think anyone who has been fortuntate enough to cross paths with Roger would agree, he was a great and unique character - one of the best!

Grip It & RIP It, Big Cat!!

My condolences and Best Wishes to Denise, the kids and the entire Lundy Family
