Roger Dale Maxwell

Roger Dale Maxwell of Rutherfordton, NC passed away on Monday, February 23, 2026 while at his home. He was born on April 30, 1958 to Betty Jo Hudgens Taylor and the late Raymond Reid Maxwell Jr,. in Rutherford County, NC. He is also predeceased by his step-fathers, Deaul Biddy and George Taylor; son, Jordan Maxwell.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Debbie Rhodes Maxwell of the home; daughter, Samantha Phan of Piney Flats, TN; sons, James Johnston (Amber) of Ellenboro, NC and Jonathon Johnston (Deanna) of Dover, NC; brothers, Danny Maxwell (Regina) of Rutherfordton, NC, Wayne Maxwell (Angel) of Mooresboro, NC, Dwight Maxwell (Robin) of Liberty, NC and Randy Biddy (Courtney) of Casar, NC; sister, Amanda Harris (Doug) of Rutherfordton, NC; 12 grandchildren, Elijah, Nakoa, Kai, Lilianna, Raymond, Carlos, Josie Bella, Brenden, Melanie, Caleb, Alana and Noelle; mother of his four children, Carmen Moore.

Roger was a member of the United States Marine Corp., he worked at the Lake Lure Police Department, Rutherford County Sheriff's Department and he retired from the Town of Rutherfordton Police Department for 12 years (1998-2010). He was also a B.L.E. T. (Basic Law Enforcement Training) Instructor at Isothermal Community College for 12 years (1998-2010).

His favorite football team were the Carolina Panthers. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He will remain in our hearts forever.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 07, 20226 at Second Baptist Church, 191 Green Street, Rutherfordton, NC 28139 with Police Honors and with Randy Greenway and Dr.Keith Stephenson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment immediately following the service in the Rutherfordton City Cemetery..
