West Brookfield - Roger “Crash” Niemiec, 83, died on Saturday evening, November 1, 2025, at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.
He leaves his sons David W. Niemiec and his wife Michelle of West Brookfield, and Gene P. Niemiec and his wife Sheila of Florida; his grandchildren Hannah, Zakari, and Camdyn Niemiec; his sisters Pat Morrison and Linda Sieczkowski, several nieces and nephews, and many friends. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Barbara J. (Allen) Niemiec just last year, as well as his brother Horace Niemiec. He was born in Ware, son of the late Horace J. and Jean (Marhefka) Niemiec.
Roger worked as a construction foreman and crane operator with the H.P. Cummings and A.R. Green Construction companies up until his retirement. He worked hard and played hard too, earning the nickname “Crash”. He was an active member of the Ludlow Fish & Game Club where he was an avid skeet shooter. He enjoyed hunting, ice fishing, snowmobiling, and being a member of the Wickaboag Sportsmen’s Club. Roger was a member of the Springfield Motorcycle Club where he participated in Enduro racing and dirt bike riding. He had a lifelong love for polka music and played the trumpet and accordion from his teenage years well into his 50s. Roger could be found reading the newspapers every morning at St. Stan’s Polish Club where he had been a member for many years.
He loved his family, especially being a Dziadziu. He would always be happy to share a cold beer and a smoke.
Calling hours for Roger will be held on November 14th, 2025, from 4 to 6pm in the Varnum Funeral Home, 43 East Main St. in West Brookfield. Crash didn’t dress up, so if you are attending the service please come as you are – in your jeans, Carhartts and camos.
In Lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that any donations be made in his memory to the Baystate Hospice, Baystate Health Foundation, 280 Chestnut Street 5th floor, Springfield, MA 01199.
