Roger Clyde Rittenhouse

Roger Clyde Rittenhouse, born November 15,1943, died to this life at Uniontown Hospital, Sunday, September 21,2025. Roger was the youngest son of James Hazen Rittenhouse, Sr and Hazelle Elizabeth Brown Rittenhouse.

Roger is survived by his wife, Carole J. Fox Rittenhouse and their children, R. Todd Rittenhouse (wife, Julie) and Heather L. Rittenhouse Mazur (husband, Matthew). Roger also considered George E. Soverns an adopted son. The absolute joys of his life were his grandson, Eli Todd Rittenhouse and granddaughter, Addison Grace Mazur.

Roger graduated from Uniontown High School Class of 1961 and graduated from Rosedale Technical Institute in diesel mechanics and diesel technology. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served from 1963-1967 as a crew chief of the KC-135 and much of what he learned in the service was later put to good use as owner of Rittenhouse Bus Lines. He and his wife operated Rittenhouse Bus Lines, Inc for 51 years for Uniontown Area School District. He is an active member of the Pennsylvania School Bus Association and served as a past president of the organization representing the small bus contractors of the Commonwealth. He served many years as a judge at the state Pennsylvania School Bus Association safety competition. He was a PA certified school bus instructor and was instrumental in helping others gain their school bus credentials. He, himself, not only owned the buses, he drove a school bus safely for 57 years. He really enjoyed the youngsters he came in contact with through the years.

Roger was BSA Scoutmaster of Troop 635, New Salem, for over 25 years and he was pleased that while in that capacity, 24 young men attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He served as scoutmaster for Wood Badge courses, JLTC and Boy Scout Fundamentals. Order of the Arrow, Silver Beaver, and God and Country were awards that he earned while in scouting. He loved the BSA program and encouraged many young boys to finish the journey to the Eagle Rank. He was on the National Jamboree Course twice at A.P. Hill, Virginia.

Roger loved antique cars and happily restored a 1933 Chevrolet Master Sedan- a car he owned from the time he was 16 years old. He belonged to the American Automobile Club of America and Vintage Chevrolet Club of America. As a member of those organizations his ’33 Chevy won 27 National Awards- many in the Senior Preservation Award category. He loved to attend car shows and always invited the youngsters to sit in the car and “toot” the horn.

Along with his brother, Jim, he was the Trustee of the Old Redstone Baptist Cemetery in Smock and together with his wife maintained that cemetery for 36 years. Roger was an active member of the Pleasant View Presbyterian Church and served on the board of Trustees and was past president of the Campbell Men’s Class.

Roger was predeceased in death by his parents and his two sisters, M. Joanne Kieta and Beth Jennings. He is survived by brothers, James H. Rittenhouse, Jr and Richard E. Rittenhouse, many nieces and nephews and many great nieces and great nephews.

Visitation will be held Friday from 5-8 PM at the Parzynski Funeral Home & Cremations LLC, Family Owned and Operated, 191 Liberty St. Perryopolis, PA 724-736-2515. Funeral services will be held Saturday at the Parzynski Funeral Home & Cremations LLC at 10:00 AM with Reverand Laura Blank, Minister of Word and Sacrament of Pleasant View Presbyterian Church. Interment will take place in Pleasant View Cemetery. The Family suggests memorial contributions be made in memory of Roger Clyde Rittenhouse to Pleasant View Presbyterian Church or Boy Scout Troop 180, Dunbar.
