Beloved husband, father, and cherished friend to a wide assortment of colorful characters, Roger passed away very suddenly just before dinner, after enjoying a wonderful Christmas morning surrounded by his loving family while visiting Rhode Island. Born in Buffalo to Leonard and Rosemary (née Brennan) Schintzius, Roger took responsibility for Goetz Energy after his father's death in 1971 and operated that business continuously for 54 years until his own death. He was an avid car collector and enthusiast, voracious reader, and had a deep appreciation for classic films. Known for his unique sense of humor and distinct personal style which he described as "ugly, but effective," Roger made an indelible impression on the people who had the good fortune to know him. He leaves behind Rosemary (née Bryce), his wife of 46 years, and three children, Bryce (Eak), Todd (Kevin) and Alex, along with three siblings, Steve, Susie (Chuck), and Warren, and many close friends and associates. Friends, loved ones, and business associates are invited to call at a memorial reception in his honor at the Saturn Club on Delaware Avenue in Buffalo on Tuesday, February 10th from 4 pm to 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, friends are invited to make a donation to the Friends of the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter, Inc. or the animal rescue organization of their choice, where Roger adopted many beloved pets over the years. Roger gave me my first "real" job in 1989 when I was 22 yrs old, driving his tankers and delivering to his Citgo stations from Buffalo to Rochester. Tough guy to work for. No nonsense and hard at times. But always fair and with a sense of humor. As the years went by I realized and appreciated how much I learned from those experiences and 5 years working for Roger. He taught me a lot as a young man and I have carried those lessons with me for 36 yrs.

I worked for Roger at Sheridan and Harlem back in the 1970's when the gasoline was in the 70's. Remember him driving up in his black Monte Carlo wearing aviator shades and a leather jacket. He was a cool guy and always pleasant.

What and awesome person he was. So very sorry to learn of his passing, we were Citgo dealers and he was very supportive, and always eager to help us succeed. He will be missed by all.
