Roger Schneider was born on February 17, 1952, in Torrington, Wyoming to Elmer and Betty Jo. He attended the University of Wyoming and, in 1976, began a lifelong career as a CPA in Rawlins, Wyoming. You know, some lives are measured in years, others in trophies, but his was measured in the size of the fish story he told.
When he wasn’t balancing ledgers, he was reading books, chasing birdies on the golf course, and touchdowns on TV. Come game day, you’d best not sit too close as he would be yelling at the TV—though he’d never admit he was arguing with the referees, just “explaining why they were wrong. “Whatever he was doing was sure to create a story.
Cantankerous? Without a doubt. Opinionated? Absolutely. But just like the biggest fish in the lake, that was part of his legend. He had a way of stirring the waters, keeping the conversation lively, and making sure no story—or debate—ever came up short.
The final chapter is not an ending but a great fish story. He leaves behind family and friends who know that while he’s finally set down his calculator, hardcover books, clubs, and TV remote, the legend of his great catch of a lifetime will be retold for years to come. The thing about a great fishing story is that it only gets bigger every time you tell it.
Services will be held at Casada Funeral Home on Friday, September 12th, at 2:00 pm. A celebration of Roger’s life will follow at The Elk’s Club.
