Roger G. Spillers age 86 of Colon, passed away on Friday, February 7, 2025, at his home on Palmer Lake.
Roger was born on May 13, 1938, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, a son to the late Donald Spillers and Garnett Roth. Roger attended Central High School in Fort Wayne. Roger had made his home in Colon since 1979, coming from Fort Wayne.
On May 11, 1958, Roger married Geraldine Ann (Jeri) Lawton in Fort Wayne. Jeri preceded Roger in death on June 16, 2019.
Roger worked for International Harvester of Fort Wayne until their closure in 1984. At that time, he was given the opportunity to transfer to the Springfield location and retired from there in 1989 after 30 years of service. Roger and Jeri would spend their weekends traveling back and forth to the lake on the weekends. Upon Rogers retirement from Harvester, they made their permanent home in Colon on Palmer Lake. The Lake house was very special to Roger and Jeri. This was a home that has been in Rogers family since the 1950's. This home has been passed down for generations and is still the main family gathering location for all the Spillers' family gatherings. Roger was never someone to just sit around and do nothing. After retiring he began helping at Bowers Service Station here in Colon. Roger was a very caring man. He cared for his mother after she moved from Fort Wayne to a home on Palmer Lake in Colon. Roger was a loving husband who made Jeri come first in everything he did. Roger was known for having the family hardware store in his garage. Anytime something was needed they went to Roger and chances are he had something that would work in his garage. Roger and Jeri's home was the family gathering location for the 4th of July, Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations. Roger found great joy in decorating the lake home for Christmas. He decorated not only the outside of the house but also the inside. Roger spent a lot of time on the water fishing and water skiing. Roger's home was the home where everyone was welcome to enjoy the lake life!
Surviving Roger are his children: Sharon Gatchell of Decatur, Indiana, Tom (Robyne) Spillers of Bentonville, Arkansas, and Dave Spillers of Colon, 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, his brother Steve (Linda) Spillers of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and several nieces and nephews.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents Donald Spillers and Garnett Roth, and his wife Geraldine Ann Spillers.
