Roger Harry Walcott, 101, of Scottsdale, Arizona passed away to be with Our Lord on August 30, 2025. He passed quietly in his sleep, surrounded at his bedside by loved ones, after a brief illness. He was born on February 25, 1924 in Waterbury, CT to the late Carleton and Agnes (Johnson) Walcott. He was the youngest of three children. He graduated from Crosby High School and later Post Junior College where he earned an accounting degree. He was a proud World War II Veteran who served with the Signal Corps of the U.S. Army Air Corp. As a B17 pilot (known as an excess pilot), he served stateside, training other pilots in Radio Range Navigation for the bombers. Toward the end of the War, he met Marie Brennan and they married in 1947. They had a full, happy and loving marriage for 66 years until Marie passed in 2013. They had seven wonderful children. Family was of the utmost importance to him. He was a kind, caring and generous father. Roger was a man of high standards and great integrity and instilled these same qualities in his children.

Roger was a CPA by profession. He worked nearly his entire career with General Time Corporation and continuing with Talley Industries after it acquired General Time, retiring in 1989. The family moved to Scottsdale, Arizona in 1970 when Talley relocated their headquarters. Roger loved Arizona and called it, “God’s Country.”

Roger enjoyed working with his hands and was a great problem-solver. If something was broken, he could analyze it and set about the task of fixing it. Even in the last few years of his life he would astonish loved ones as he assembled various purchases he made on-line all on his own without assistance. Amazon will miss him. For many years after retirement he enjoyed golfing. He followed the local sports teams and was a big fan of Lexi Thompson, a now semi-retired, LPGA golfer. He financially supported many causes through the years such as The Little Sisters of the Poor, Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix, Wounded Warrior Project, Disabled Veterans of America and the American Heart Association.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents (Carleton and Agnes), siblings (Ray Walcott and Florence Bramhall), wife (Marie Brennan) and son-in-law (Dave Flake). He is survived by his children Gwen Walcott (Carol), Rio Rancho, NM, John Walcott (Carrie) Hillsborough, NC, Barbara Flake, Mesa, AZ, Ellen Page (Randy), Los Osos, CA, Susan Bull (Ed), Phoenix, AZ, Nancy Hebert (Greg), Chandler, AZ and Arthur (Sonny) Szczesniak (Elaine), Chandler, AZ along with fifteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, several nieces and a nephew.

The family would like to thank Wes Mitchell at Home with Help and the many gifted and compassionate caregivers who helped Roger in his last two months; Michael J. A. Robb, MD for his care, guidance and compassion when urgently needed; and also Hospice of the Valley, who was an invaluable resource in his final days.

A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025 at 11:00 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 2312 E Campbell Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85016. The burial will follow on Monday, September 22, 2025 at 9:30 am at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 2929 E Pinnacle Peak Road, Phoenix, AZ 85024.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Villa Guadalupe Little Sisters of the Poor (Gallup, NM) or Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix.
