Roger W. Werner, 91, of Polk, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 3, 2025 at Annie Jeffrey Hospital in Osceola. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 10, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Polk with Pastor Ricardo Riqueza officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 9th from 5-7 p.m. at Solt-Wagner Funeral Home in Polk. Interment will be held at a later date.
Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.soltwagnerfuneral.com.
Roger was born on November 24, 1933 in Polk, NE to Ray and Myrtle (Liedtke) Werner. Roger will be remembered for his infectious laugh, good nature and he always had a story to tell. You could set your watch by when he stopped to have coffee with the locals at the elevator or service station. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Roger attended Polk High School and enlisted in the United States Army on November 29, 1951 where he served as a paratrooper in Korea until he was honorably discharged on November 3, 1954 with the rank of Private First Class.
Upon his return from Korea, he was united in marriage to Donna M. Monson and returned to farming on the family farm just south of Polk. Roger also worked for the State of Nebraska and NRD for a number of years doing seeding and fencing when roads were rebuilt. In his spare time, he participated in and enjoyed antique tractor pulls with friends and family. He was a frequent participant in area auctions and had a permanent number with several auction companies. If the auctioneer couldn't get a bid on something, they would look at Roger and sell it for $1! Roger and Donna enjoyed vacations with friends and it was always an adventure; one time he wanted to take a shortcut and they ended up in someone's pasture. Another time they were pulling a pop-up camper, blew a tire and the camper caught fire and they lost everything.
Roger was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Donna, his parents, his sister, Ila Mae and her husband Roger Campbell, sister-in-law Parma Werner and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Don and Melva (Monson) Herbig.
He is survived by his 4 children, Rodney, Roxanne, Mitchell (Kathy) and Monica Werner. One granddaughter, Jennifer (Werner) Uffelman, 4 great-grandchildren; Allison, Carly, Conner and Hailey and several nieces and nephews.
