Roger William Whiteside, age 68, of Knoxville, TN, passed away on October 12, 2025.
Roger was born on September 20, 1957, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to WC and Hope Whiteside. At the age of 8, he moved with his family to Houston, Texas. He loved all sports-especially basketball, which he excelled in during high school. He graduated from Bellaire High School in 1975 and went on to attend Abilene Christian University, where he earned a degree in Biology and Education in 1980. While at ACU, Roger met the love of his life, Katherine Addams, and they were married on May 3, 1980. Their daughter, Lindsay, was born in 1980, followed by their son, Ryan, in 1982.
They settled in the Texas Panhandle, where Roger worked as a teacher and high school basketball coach in Amarillo and later Stratford. In 1991, they moved to Round Rock, where Roger began a new career in the semiconductor industry until his retirement in January 2025.
Roger had many interests and taught himself to do many things, including carpentry and photography. He loved sports and music, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family. He and Katy traveled extensively with friends and in support of the missions team from their church. Roger was a faithful Christian man, who actively served in the church wherever he lived. He was an elder at Round Rock Church of Christ for eight years and deeply loved the congregation there.
He was preceded in death by his parents, WC and Hope Whiteside, and his brother, Darrell Whiteside.
Roger is survived by his wife, Katherine Whiteside; daughter, Lindsay Oler; son, Ryan Whiteside, and his wife, Mary Pat Whiteside. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Evelyn Whiteside, Presley Oler, Cyrus Oler, Gwyneth Whiteside, Isla Oler, George Whiteside, and Colette Oler. He leaves behind his sisters, Raylene Cozort (and her husband Ron) and Ramona Harwell (and her husband Robert).
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Round Rock Church of Christ, located at 1200 N. Georgetown, Round Rock, Texas.
International mission work was one of Roger's greatest passions, so in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the Round Rock Church of Christ Mission Fund: https://tinyurl.com/RogerWhitesideMemorial
