Sharon Rains Hayes, age 78, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. She bravely endured a relentless battle with ALS, meeting each day with faith, courage, and hope that inspired everyone around her. Sharon was born on October 12, 1947, in Fentress County, Tennessee, to Avadean and Grea Rains. She married the love of her life, Jimmy C. Hayes, and together they shared 57 wonderful years filled with love, laughter, and true camaraderie. She adored her family, who were the joy of her life-her sons, Michael Hayes (Amy) and Jason Hayes (Carrie); her beloved grandchildren, Samantha, Charlie, Hayden, Henley, and Hyatt; her siblings, Sheila and Gregory; and her faithful dog, Biscuit. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Gary. A graduate of Tennessee Tech University, Sharon spent her life investing in others through education. She taught for many years, the majority of her career at Farragut Primary School, where she poured her heart into her students and left a lasting impact on countless young lives. Her "teacher friends" became like family, sharing a loyal bond that lasted a lifetime. Sharon's faith was central to who she was. As an active partner at Shoreline Church, she carried herself with grace, dignity, and a warm positivity that inspired everyone around her. Even when she could no longer speak, she continued to show love, kindness, and unwavering faith, offering comfort and encouragement to others despite her own hardship. She had a gift for making people feel seen and loved, often through handwritten notes and quiet kindness that reflected her loving spirit. Per Sharon's wishes, a private family graveside service will be held at Pleasant Forest Cemetery in Farragut, officiated by her son, Rev. Jason Hayes. Friends who wish to express condolences are encouraged to reach out to Jimmy and the family in the coming days. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to ALS.org. Sharon will be deeply missed-but her legacy of love and faith will live on. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Sharon, please visit our floral store.
