Wanda Louis Long, age 84, passed away on October 18, 2025, in Knoxville, TN.
She was born on July 20, 1941, in Knoxville, TN, to parents Jay Swann and Hilda Stinnett.
Wanda graduated from Bearden High School before pursuing cosmetology school. She dedicated 30 years to her role as a Rural Letter Carrier with the United States Postal Service. Wanda was an active member of Bethel United Methodist Church. She was very much loved and a mom to most of the Amherst community.
Wanda was known for her kindness, compassion, and genuine warmth. She cherished every moment spent with her family and created lasting memories with them. Her adventurous spirit led her to travel as often as she could.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jay Swann and Hilda Swann; her brothers, Robert "Bob" Swann and Billy Swann; her son, James Harlon Long; her daughter, Jody Anna Louis Long; her daughter-in-law, Sherry Long; her aunt, Onita Bradley; her former husband, James Edward Long; and her grandchild, Derek Ferrell.
She is survived by her sons, Cletus "Ed" Long and Dewayne Long; her daughter-in-law, Betsy Long; her siblings, Floyd (Kathy) Swann, Barbra (Eddie) Edmonds, James Swann, Jaeda (Greg) Hutchinson, and Jason (Jennifer) Swann. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Bertie Swann; her grandchildren, Chris Long, Samantha Long, Chelse Long (Shawn Harrison), Michael Long, Sarah Deaderick (Whitney Payne), Whittani Walden, Duncan Long, Mason Seeber, Hannah Dyer, and Corrine (Tony)Zager; and many nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren who will miss Wanda greatly.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Whitney Payne for her devoted care and compassion during Wanda's illness. They are also deeply appreciative of all those who offered support, kindness, and love to Wanda throughout her life.
A service will take place at 4:00 pm on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Bethel United Methodist Church (2004 Amherst Rd, Knoxville, TN 37921) with Pastor John Justice officiating. The church will provide a meal afterwards, where all are invited to celebrate Wanda's life.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Bethel United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice in Wanda's memory.
