Donald Odell McCombs was born on July 12, 1932 and passed peacefully from this life on October 18, 2025 leaving behind a legacy of devotion to his Savior, his country, and the family he cherished above all. He lived a life defined by love, service, and unwavering faith.
He was baptized into Christ at age 14 at the Church of Christ in his home town of Rotan, TX. Shortly after graduating high school, Donald answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army where he served honorably during the Korean War. Upon completing his military service, he transitioned to civilian life and married Joy Beth Stewart on February 9, 1957. He graduated from Abilene Christian College in 1958.
A true family man, Donald's heart overflowed with pride as he became a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He found great joy in family gatherings which brought him some of his happiest moments.
In his leisure time, Donald was a dedicated sports fan. He rarely missed watching or listening to a game, especially those involving his beloved Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers.
Donald is survived by his three loving daughters: Cheralynn Stevens and her husband Roy; Donette Simonds and her husband Cary; and Dee Anne Holt and her husband Tim. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Jeremy Stevens and his wife Brittany; Kailee Casey and her husband Miles; Colby Simonds and his wife Jennifer; Nicholas Simonds and his wife Bonita; Hayley Chumchal and her husband Jaace; Jill Heffington and her husband Mitch; and Jordan Holt. His memory will also live on through his great-grandchildren: Molly and Emmalynn Stevens; Jaxon and Hudson Casey; Nolan and Madelyn Simonds; Abigail and Gabriella Simonds; and Travis and Kate Heffington.
Donald was preceded in death by parents; his sister, June Balentine and her husband Jack; and his beloved wife of 66 years, Joy Beth McCombs.
He will be remembered for his steadfast love, his servant heart, and a life well-lived in faith. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Donald, please visit our floral store.
