We celebrate the remarkable life of Donald Gene Bowerman, who was born on April 8, 1940, in Alfalfa, Oklahoma, and went to be with his Savior on Monday, October 20, 2025. A proud veteran, Donald honorably served his country for over 8 years in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves. He dedicated 42 years of his professional life as a Material Buyer at Dana Corporation, where his quiet diligence and hard work were greatly valued.
Don was a devoted servant of the Lord, impacting countless lives through his decades of work with high school students in the church. He tirelessly participated in various activities, including church camps, cook outs, lock-ins, ski trips, and missionary journeys, fostering faith and community in young hearts.
In his well-earned retirement, Don found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved going to the lake, fishing, and traveling to cheer on his grandchildren at their sporting events. His greatest pride and joy, however, came from being a devoted husband to his high school sweetheart of 64 years, Peggy Bowerman, and a beloved "Papa Don" to his grandchildren and many other children who became like family over the years.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, Willis "Curly" Bowerman and Orbie "Tiny" Young, and his sister, Wanda Couch. His legacy of love and dedication lives on through his cherished wife, Peggy Bowerman; his daughters, Tonia Hammond and Tina Manek; his sons-in-law, Gary Hammond and Cary Manek. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Janis Booton, and his dear friend and brother-in-law, Ernie along with his spouse Sue Campbell. His grandchildren, Logan Fodge, Seth Hammond, Kellen and Cloie Manek, and Brady Manek, will carry on his spirit. "Uncle Don" will also be fondly remembered by a host of nephews, nieces and their families.
Donald Gene Bowerman will be most remembered as a quiet, hardworking man who loved his family fiercely. He was happiest and proudest when he was enjoying being "Papa Don" and enthusiastically following his grandchildren as they played all their sports. His life was a testament to faith, family, and unwavering commitment, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
