Roger John Wierman met his lord and savior Jesus Christ in the early morning hours of Tuesday, December 30, 2025. He was 93 years old.
The 3rd of 4 sons, Roger was born in a time gone by to Giles and Angeline Wierman in the idyllic town of Boltonville, Wisconsin in the late winter of 1932. Coming of age at the end of the Great Depression and World War II, his childhood was something of a Norman Rockwell Saturday Evening Post cover. Catching crawfish and hunting Snapping turtles in the local pond, working summers at the family mill with his older brothers, playing fetch with his beagle Chester. He was driving tractor at the age of 12. Front doors went unlocked. Everyone knew every neighbor. A three sport varsity athlete, Roger lettered in 6 man football, basketball, and baseball. Homecoming King his senior year. A patriotic son, after high school Roger did his duty and joined the Army, serving as a mail clerk in the Korean Conflict from 1950-1951. His family aside, his service to his country was his greatest point of pride and personal achievement, receiving the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and 2 Bronze Service Stars.
After returning from Korea Roger attended Marquette University on the G.I. Bill where he studied chemistry and philosophy. Upon graduation he joined the work-a-day world where the bulk of his career was a traveling industrial pipe salesman. It was here where he would fall in love with "the road". While working and living in the Cincinnati, Ohio area he met, on a double date with her sister no less, the woman with whom he would spend the next 64 years.
Mary Margaret Beckman and Roger Wierman married at the Basilica of St. Mary on December 22, 1962. The following December they had Bernard, the first of seven children. Mathew and Andrew soon followed. Then two daughters, Aimee and Molly, then two more sons, Adam and Joseph. An old school midwest Catholic family.
A founding member of Epiphany Catholic Church, Roger was a man of deep religious convictions. His was a kind of intellectual faith influenced heavily by his studies of Augustine and Aquinas from his Marquette days in the philosophy department. The three pillars of Roger's life were church, family and work. His every day was dedicated to three simple ideals: work hard at your trade, love and provide for your family, and be faithful to your God. An unassuming man, quite comfortable in his own skin, Roger was at home in conversation with the average working joe as he was with the erudite college professor. Strangers he met never stayed strangers long, for he was always interested in the lives and stories of others.
Roger was an avid reader, American history being one of his favorite topics. He also loved to garden, every summer producing a super abundance of tomatoes, kohlrabi, cucumbers and swiss chard. Never a fan of flying but a lover of the drive, Roger took the greatest pleasure in a road trip. Washington, D.C., St. Augustine Florida, Salt Lake City, Utah or Galveston, Texas. No distance was ever too far. For him it just meant more opportunity to see the country he loved so much in the way he loved to see it. Physically stout even into his final years, he routinely worked out at his YMCA up until his final earthly days.
He was a man that embodied the principle and philosophy of living simply.
Roger is preceded in death by his father and mother Giles and Angeline, his three brothers Donald, Gordon and Douglas, his wife and partner of 64 years Margaret, and his beloved grandsons Joshua and Dylan. Survived by his children Ben, Matt (Sheri), Andy (Amy), Aimee (Terry), Molly (Chris), Adam (Kelly), Joseph, and Kurt Fox. Grandchildren: Zachary, Sarah, Jamie (Ben), Isaac, Madilyne, Abby (Skip), Levi (Sarah), Giles, Raegan, and Taya. 5 great grandchildren Elliana, McKenna, Maverick, Brooklyn, and Kennedy.
Roger will be laid to rest on Friday, January 16th, 2026 at Epiphany Catholic Church, 1900 111th Ave.,
Coon Rapids, MN 55433. Visitation from 9:30-10:30. Funeral mass at 10:30. Interment to follow with a luncheon.
