Rogers John Basarich, age 83, of Charleston, MO, and formerly of Granite City, IL, died Sunday, April 21, 2024, at Mercy Southeast Health in Cape Girardeau, MO.
Born, April 25, 1940, at Granite City, IL, to the late Steve Basarich and Mary Wagner Basarich, Rogers graduated from Granite City High School in 1959. In January of 1962, he married the love of his life, Sally Sue Stewart. They were happily married for 60 years.
Rogers worked for Olin Brass until his retirement in 2000. In 2014, he and his wife moved to Rolla where he enjoyed golf and his best buddies at Oak Meadow Country Club. In 2021, he moved to Charleston to be by his daughter and granddaughters. There he found joy in his new friends at the Charleston Country Club and the VFW.
Rogers was a loving husband, dad, grandpa and pawpaw. He enjoyed time with his family and was a major supporter in all of their activities. He was a hockey grandpa, grandpa to the Sweepers soccer team, loved helping the great grands with golf. He also loved racing & cars with his son.
Rogers was preceded in death by his loving wife, his parents, his brother, Andrew Basarich and an infant son, Michael Stewart Basarich.
He is survived by his son, Rogers Joe (Jennifer) Basarich of St Jacob, IL; his daughter, Susan (Greg) Luehmann of Charleston; his grandchildren, Mindi (Kevin) Fitzgerald of Charleston, Megan (Jacob) Priday of Sikeston, MO, Katherine (Tyler) McCann of Charleston, Courtney (Tim) Lindsay of St Louis, Michael (Nikki) Basarich of Highland, IL, Lacey (Kenny) Compton of St Jacob, IL and Logan Teeters of St Jacob; also, 21 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Rev. Scott Moon, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Charleston, will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, plants and gift items, the family requests memorials be made to the Charleston VFW Post 4294, 500 Helena Street, Charleston, MO 63834.
