Roland Allen Albert, known affectionately as Rolly, passed away on August 15, 2024, at the age of 93 in
New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Born on March 8,1931 to Josephine and William C. Albert in Jamaica, Queens, New York.
Rolly attended Union High School in New Jersey. He married Eleanor A. Ramspeck and soon after entered the United States Navy, where he worked on aircraft carriers as an airmen's mechanic assistant.
Following his military service, Rolly embarked on a successful career in sales and entrepreneurship. Early on he worked for Dean Floor Covering, Sequoia Carpet Mills, and later moved his family to Florida for a position with Harry Rich Carpet in Miami, Florida. Years later he founded Carpets by Rolly, a mobile shop at home service (wish I had a picture of his van that he had strategically decorated with indoor- outdoor carpet). He then ventured into a cabinet business with his son (A&A Associates), and eventually took ownership of Coronado Carpet on Canal St in New Smyrna Beach.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Rolly was a passionate sports enthusiast. He was a devoted fan of the Orlando Magic, the Miami Dolphins and the Florida Gators. His hobbies included fishing, bowling, reading, and jigsaw puzzles. Rolly enjoyed participating in his church choir, and he enjoyed playing and occasionally calling the bingo games at Council on Aging. A volunteer at the Habitat for Humanity Store, Rolly dedicated countless hours to helping those in need and was an avid blood donor. Rolly loved to laugh, spend time with his family and keep busy. He was known for his meticulous care in maintaining his home, a beautifully kept lawn, and festive holiday decorations. His tinkering around the house, especially outdoors in the Florida heat with a glass of sweet tea, brought him great joy.
Rolly is predeceased by his mother, father, brother Bill, and his wife of 64 yrs. His journey continues in the loving memories of those whose lives he so deeply touched. He is survived by his children, Cindy Pagano, Jeff Albert and Jennifer Oliu along with his grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
A military honors burial will be held at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, Florida on a yet-to-be determined date and time. Those wishing to honor his memory may donate to Vitas Healthcare Hospice in New Smyrna Beach through vitascommunityconnection.org, honoring the compassionate care they delivered to Rolly with kindness, patience, and respect. A special thanks to Trish his nurse and the entire team 217 (YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!).
Rest in peace dad. It was a hell of a run.
