Roland E. Horton

Roland E. Horton, age 95, of Painted Post, NY, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Guthrie Corning Hospital.
He was born on May 12, 1930 in East Campbell, Steuben County, NY, the son of Norman W. and Mary E. (Bovaird) Horton. He married Helen I. Velie on July 7, 1951, who died on November 25, 2003. On April 9, 2005 he married Marilyn (Smith) Lilyea, who died on July 25, 2020.
Roland served in the U.S. Navy from April 15, 1949 until his discharge in 1956. He returned to the Naval Reserve in 1966 and served until 1973 for a total of 12 years active/reserve duty with a rank of 1st Class Petty Officer. Through the years, he was a member of the Monterey Volunteer Fire Department, Scoutmaster of Troop 64 in Monterey, NY from 1960-1966, Town of Orange Justice from 1968-1971 and 1985-2005; as well as a NYS Hunter Safety Instructor, member of the Schuyler County Sheriff's Auxiliary and a Deacon in the Monterey Baptist Church. He was employed with Corning Glass Works as an instructor with the Apprenticeship program.
Mr. Horton was known not only for his love of Jesus Christ but his family, as well.
He is survived by his sons, Wayne and Linda (Myers) and Bradley Horton; daughter, Kim (Horton) and Lawrence Dykes; grandchildren: Marc (Stacey) Horton, Eric (Megan) Horton, Jon (Julie) Horton, Kristopher (Mandy) Horton, Krystle (Kyle) Bristol, Heather (Adam) Monell, April (Jacob) Moretti, Amber (Jeffrey) Tham, and Danielle & Nicole; great-grandchildren: Ethan (Leah) Horton, Jacob Horton, Baleigh Monell, Dylan Monell, Katherine Horton, Maddie Horton, Aiden Monell, Adalyn Tham, Ryan Horton, Kalvin Bristol, Phoebe Horton, Lindsey Horton, Preston Tham, Lucas Moretti, Grayson Tham, Phineas Horton, Maddox Moretti, Sarah, and Seth & Morgan; and great-great-grandchild, Finley Horton. He is predeceased by his daughter, Rhonda Payne.
Calling Hours will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 E. 1st St., Corning, NY 14830. Calling Hours will continue on Friday, September 12, 2025, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Bradford Baptist Church, 2788 Yawger Hill Rd., Bradford, NY 14815, where a Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 pm. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Hope Cemetery in Campbell, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Roland's name to Bradford Baptist Church.
