With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Roman Dahlke, our loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, on December 22, 2025. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home at the age of 95.
He was born on November 21, 1930, in Halder, WI, to the late Peter William and Lucille Julia (Baur) Dahlke. Roman graduated from Mosinee High School in 1950. He was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War and completed tours in Camp Stewart, GA and Thule, Greenland. He was honorably discharged in 1954. Roman later participated in the Never Forgotten Honor Flight in April of 2014, traveling to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials built to honor his service and that of his fellow veterans.
Upon returning from Greenland, Roman married his high school sweetheart, Doris Rosine, on August 16, 1954, at St. Patrick’s Parish in Halder, WI. She survives. Together, they were blessed to raise four children. Doris and Roman purchased a farm soon after their marriage and spent their lifetime raising sheep, horses and cattle. They were well known in the area for hitching their Belgian horses to a covered wagon and riding in parades and other community events. They were featured on the television show Rescue 911 with other neighbors re-enacting a wagon train accident. Roman worked at the Mosinee Paper Mill following his military service and remained there for more than 40 years until his retirement. He also was a Knights of Columbus member for 50 years.
Roman will be remembered for his quick wit and endless one liner jokes, shared freely with anyone who would listen. Within minutes of meeting him, he had a way of making others feel at home through his warmth and humor. As every farmer puts his land to rest for the winter, God has now put this farmer to rest, as he walks the horizon into a new life with His Lord and Savior.
He is survived by his beloved wife Doris, children: Diane (Tony) Kaiser, Mosinee, WI; Dorene (Doug) Nash, St. Louis MO; Roy Dahlke, Greenville, WI; and son-in-law John Sauter, Menasha, WI; ten grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and his sister, Judy Swita, of Mosinee, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved daughter Donna Sauter, and grandson Luke Kaiser.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Halder. The Rev. Don Bosco will officiate. Burial will take place in St. Patrick Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m., until the time of Mass, all at the church. Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee, is assisting the family with arrangements.
