Ron March 5, 1945 - Grubbs June 12, 2023 George Ronald Grubbs, Jr. (Ron), 78, born in Ashland, VA, was a longtime resident of Richmond. A devoted husband, loving father, and brother Ron passed away peacefully on Monday, June 12, 2023.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emily Jean Bobbitt Grubbs and George Ronald Grubbs, Sr. Ron is survived by his wife, Kim Gentil; and two adoring children, Katy Grubbs Diefenderfer (Mark) of
Midlothian, Virginia; Andrew Hamilton Grubbs (Jennifer) of
Charleston, South Carolina and his six grandchildren: Waverly, Everlee, Colin, Hunter, Brynn & Grant. Ron also leaves behind three younger brothers, Gerald Reid Grubbs (Pattie), Dr. Gene Bobbitt Grubbs (Lea) and Kim Whitehead Grubbs (Karen), Sister-in-Law, Dorothy (Boo) Winn Gentil and Brothers-in-Laws, Stevens Negus Gentil (Margaret) and Kenneth Gray Gentil Jr., as well as several nieces and nephews.
Ron was an outstanding athlete at Patrick Henry High School in Ashland, VA. He graduated in 1963 and accepted a full scholarship to the University of Richmond to play running back and defensive back for the Spiders. Ron graduated in 1967 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity. Upon graduation, Ron volunteered to join the United States Navy as a commissioned officer and began his training to become a Naval Aviator. He earned his Gold Wings in 1969 flying both the A4 Skyhawk and Huey helicopter supporting the United States Special Operations Teams. Ron retired as a Lieutenant in the United States Naval Reserves in 1971.
After his time in service, Ron returned to Richmond and enrolled in the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Business where he completed a Master of Science in Finance. He subsequently entered the T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond and was awarded his Juris Doctor in 1976. Ron practiced law in Richmond as a partner at Coates & Davenport, P.C. and later established his own firm, McMurtrie, Grubbs & Associates. After retiring from the courtroom, he served as the Associate Broker and Vice President of The Gentil Company Real Estate until his last days.
Throughout his life Ron was involved with several civic associations. He was a member of the South Richmond Rotary Club, Optimist International, National Association of Home Builders, and was a Master Mason with Richmond Lodge No. 10. Ron was also a member of Willow Oaks Country Club and later the Country Club of Virginia. In his downtime, Ron enjoyed flying his Cessna, playing golf, boating the York River, and traveling the Caribbean with Kim to scuba dive. Ron was always a dedicated and loving father and he made every attempt to attend every one of his children's sporting events and school activities. He will be remembered as a brilliant attorney, a good friend, a dedicated father, and loving husband.
The family has requested privacy during this time. Ron will be laid to rest at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
