Ron McCarty

Ronald Craig McCarty, age 74, of St. Johns, Michigan, passed away on October 29, 2025, after a brief illness.
Ron was born on June 17, 1951, in Lansing, Michigan, the oldest of three children born to Robert and Lila (Turbeville) McCarty. At age five, his family moved to Pennsylvania, where he later graduated from Monroeville High School. He returned to Michigan to attend Michigan State University, earning his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
While in Lansing, Ron met the love of his life, Linda Thelen, through mutual friends. They were married on August 18, 1973, at St. John's Student Parish in Lansing. After living briefly in Trenton, Michigan, they settled in St. Johns in 1978, where they built a home and a life together filled with family, faith, and friendship.
Ron enjoyed a long and successful career as an electrical engineer with Chrysler and General Motors, retiring in 2009.
A quiet, easygoing man with a quirky sense of humor, Ron was known for always having something funny to say. He was a talented handyman who loved fixing things-especially for his grandchildren. He had a green thumb and took great pride in his fruit trees, often sharing his homemade apple cider with friends and family.
A devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ron served faithfully as an usher and was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-two years, Linda; sons Brent (Tonya), Sean (Fawn), and Ryan (Stephanie); and grandchildren Austin and Ethan, Claire and Owen, Aiden, Riley, and Aubrey. He is also survived by his aunt, Rev. Ruth McCarty; sisters-in-law, Mary Lee Kowatch and Colleen (Fran) Fedewa; and brothers-in-law Terry (Theresa) Thelen, David Thelen, Brian (Deb) Thelen, and Mike (Carrie) Thelen.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Alan McCarty; his sister, Cassandra McCarty; his parents-in-law, Leo and Marie Thelen; and brothers-in-law Kevin Thelen and John Kowatch.
Visitation will be held at McGeehan Funeral Home, 1500 Waterford Pkwy, St. Johns on Monday, November 3, 2025 from 4-8 PM; Vigil Service at 7 PM.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 109 Linden St, St Johns, on Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at 11 AM. A luncheon will follow at Columbian Hall, 1108 Old U.S. 27, St Johns. Burial Most Holy Trinity Cemetery in Fowler at 2 PM.
