Ronald John Apgar, age 91, of Elizabeth City, NC, died at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center on Tuesday, April 29, 2025. Born in Dunellen, NJ on October 3, 1933, to the late Clifford Apgar and Margaret Lee Schaefer Apgar, he was the widower of Judith Mary Apgar, his wife of 65 years. He served his country honorably in the U. S. Navy as a submariner. Continuing to serve his community after active-duty military service, he was a 20-year police veteran of the Piscataway, NJ Police Department, a member of the Blue Knights (Police Motorcycle Club), and the Police Benevolent Association. Ronald enjoyed woodworking, fixing cars, riding his motorcycle, camping, boating, and traveling.
Ronald is survived by two daughters, Dawn Fellerman (David) and Sherri Staffelli; a son, Thomas Apgar (Kathy); nine grandchildren, John, Ronald (Brittany), Christina (Christopher), Daniel, Tommy, Andrew (Dionna), Philip (Taé), Dana, and Aaron; and eight precious great-grandchildren, Peyton, Alexandria, Nathaniel, Aliyah, Olivia, Reagan, Logan, and Bristol. Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, his cherished wife, his beloved son, Ronald "Chip" Apgar, and son-in-law, John Staffelli.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at St. Gertrude Cemetery, 53 Inman Avenue, Colonia, NJ 07067.
