Ronald Lee Brown, age 81, of Linton, went to be with his Heavenly Father at 5:30 A.M. on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at Glenburn Home in Linton. Ron was born in Lawrenceville, IL on September 11, 1940. He was the son of Cecil and Mary (Wolfe) Watkins.
Ron was a 1958 graduate of Lawrenceville High School. He moved to Linton in 1960 with Red & White Grocery. In 1963, he went to work as a licensed insurance agent for Francis Haseman & Son Insurance Company in Linton. In 1974 he purchased the business naming it Ron Brown Insurance and later changed the name to APA Insurance Company, when his son Richard joined the business, and later took ownership when Ron retired in the early 1990's. Ron also owned and operated Best in Town Real Estate for many years until his retirement. He was known throughout his years in business as "Ron Brown, Best in Town."
Ron was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church for many years until it's merger with Linton First United Methodist Church. He was very active in many leadership roles of both churches throughout the years, along with participating in the choir. He was a Fifty-Year Member of Linton Masonic Lodge #560, founding member and president for several years of Pregnancy Choices, was president two times for Linton Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow, served on the board of directors at Glenburn Home and the Greene County Student Builders, and was a member of the Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce along with many other organizations.
He enjoyed mowing, gardening in flower beds, golfing with his sons, vacationing at Daytona Beach, and loved The Lord & studying the Bible.
Survivors include his wife of nearly thirty years, Marsha K. (Creager) Brown of Linton, his children, Randall (Sue) Brown of Bloomfield, Robert (Ann) Brown of Bloomfield, Richard (Michelle) Brown of Linton, Rhonda (James Franklin) Brown of Jasonville, Jason (Cindy) Walton of Switz City, and Katie (Greg) Elliott of Linton; a sister, Sandy (John) Lefler; fifteen grandchildren, Andrew Brown, R.J. (Megan) Brown, Levi (Kaitlyn) Brown, Brandee (Kris) McKee, Jason (Alicia) Haywood, Tanner Haywood, Veronica Brown, Victoria (Will) Fulton, Isabelle Brown, Shakole (Jarrod) Lewis, Maclyn Booher, Noah Walton, Brynna Walton, Audrey (Owen) Sparks, and Erin Elliott; grandson-in-law, Logan (Annabelle) Poindexter; and twenty-one great-grandchldren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kathryn J. Haywood; and granddaughters, Alexandra "Lexi" Dawn Poindexter and Breanna Kay Russell.
Funeral service will be held at Linton First United Methodist Church at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, April 14, 2022, with Rev. Ben Biggs officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
Visitation will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton on Wednesday from 4-8 P.M., and at the church on Thursday from 10 A.M. until the time of service.
Memorial donations may be made to Linton First United Methodist Church, through the funeral home.
