Ernestine Mae Ferry, at the beautiful age of 100, peacefully left this earth at 12:29 PM on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at Greene County General Hospital in Linton. She was born in Linton on December 23, 1924, the daughter of Paul and Trella (Corbin) Prudhomme. She was incredibly proud of her French heritage and was blessed to travel extensively, including a trip to Besseges, France where her father was born.
After she graduated from Linton-Stockton High School in 1943, she went to IBM school in Chicago, Illinois, then moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana to work at International Harvester. She met her husband Bob when he came home from the war and they were married on May 11, 1947. They enjoyed life together for almost 65 years before Bob's passing. They were active in the community and dedicated members of St. Peter Catholic Church. She dedicated many years making noodles with St. Anne's Altar Society, and also as a volunteer at the Community Food Pantry. Ernie retired from Linton-Stockton School after 13 years as a reading coordinator.
Ernie, as she was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her journey on this earth was led by love, compassion, and an unwavering faith in God. Her love for her family will be her legacy, as it is the greatest gift one generation leaves to the next.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her beloved husband, Bob; brother, Jim Prudhomme; and sister, Pauline Armstrong.
Survivors include her seven children; Joe Ferry, Paula (Bob) Sedrowski, Debbie (Greg) Reed, Nancy (Nick) Karazsia, Ellen (Bill) Sanders, Tom (Chandra) Ferry and John (Laleh) Ferry. Also surviving Ernie are 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton on Monday, April 21, 2025 from 4:00-7:00 PM..
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Peter Catholic Church in Linton at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, with Father Srinivasa Malaka officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Carnegie Heritage Art Center or the Linton Community Food Pantry in memory of Ernie for her love and devotion to the arts, as well as her community. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
