Ronald Paul Buck, 77, passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of June 10, 2025 after a year-long battle with prostate cancer. Born on August 22nd 1947 in Detroit, MI to Gustave and Ernesta Rose Buck, Ronald is survived by son Christopher (Kimberly) Buck, granddaughters Lila and Emma Buck, brother James D. Buck, nieces Adrieann Buck, Janine Grillo, and Julie Lange, and great nieces and nephews. Ronald was predeceased by his wife Lynn (Selip) Buck, his parents Gustave and Ernesta Buck, and brother Joseph J. Buck.
Ronald was a standout athlete at Saint Anthony High School in Detroit, where he achieved All-State Honors in four sports: football, baseball, basketball, and track. His baseball skills were such that the Cincinnati Reds were interested in him. Unfortunately, he was unable to pursue his dream, as his father passed away, necessitating he work full time to help support his family. Ronald moved to San Francisco for a job opportunity, in 1975 where he met Lynn Selip. They fell in love and married in 1978. Their only child, Christopher, was born shortly after in 1980. Ronald was a loving husband for 31 years until Lynn passed away from breast cancer in 2008. Ronald was an outstanding father, who enjoyed coaching Little League baseball. He worked extremely hard to provide for his family, working as a long-haul driver, sales associate at Good Guys, and as a produce manager for Safeway in Marin County, CA. Ronald loved nature; tending a garden was where he felt at peace. Later in life Ronald became very active in his local church in Marin County, where he met so many fantastic friends. In 2023, he moved to McKinney, TX to be closer to his son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughters. He enjoyed watching the girls’ many sports, cheer, and school activities. Ronald will best be remembered as a kind and humble man. He will be missed by his friends and family. “Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.”
Services will be held on Saturday, August 23 at 12:00 p.m. at Charles W. Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 601 S. Tennessee St., McKinney, TX 75069. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Ronald’s honor to the American Cancer Society.
