Ronald "Ron" Wayne Collis, affectionately known as Mac, passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on December 13, 2023, in
Wilmington, NC. Born on November 19, 1940, in Danville, VA, Ron lived a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Ron was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. He was married to his cherished wife, Marlys Collis, for 47 years. Together, they created a beautiful family and a lifetime of unbreakable bonds.
Ron had an incredible talent for forming connections with people from all walks of life. He never met a stranger, always finding a common bond with anyone, at any time, and anywhere he went. His warm and welcoming nature made him well-liked and loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
With an exceptional memory, Ron had a knack for remembering birthdays, anniversaries, and other important dates. He would make sure to send cards, showing his thoughtfulness and care for others. This genuine kindness endeared him to everyone he crossed paths with.
One of Mac's greatest joys in life was being a grandfather. He adored his nine beloved grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, with another one on the way. Mac embraced his role as a grandfather wholeheartedly, and it was the most important title he held. Fishing with his grandkids brought him immense happiness and created lasting memories that will be cherished for generations.
Ron's interests included being an avid ACC fan, particularly cheering on the NC State Wolfpack. He took great pride in supporting his team, sharing the victories and disappointments alongside fellow fans.
Ron's educational journey began at Ferrum Junior College before transferring to NC State University, where he obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree.
Ron is survived by his children, Chris Collis, Chris Macomson, and Amanda Thorpe, who will forever carry his spirit in their hearts, along with his sister Yvonne Haraway (Harold), several close cousins, 2 nephews, and many other extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry M. Collis, his mother, Margaret Collis, his son Wayne Macomson, and his sisters, Harriet Collis and Kathy Norton.
Ron's legacy will live on through the memories shared by those who knew him, and the love he gave so freely. His incredible spirit, warmth, and unwavering devotion to his family will forever be cherished. Ron's irrepressible love for his wife Marlys was evident to all who witnessed it and served as an inspiring example of true partnership.
In this time of loss, we remember and celebrate the remarkable life of Ronald "Ron" Wayne Collis, a man whose impact on the lives of others cannot be measured.
