Ronald Lynn Durst, 80, of Carterville, passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

A memorial gathering will be held from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville.

Ron was born on September 24, 1945, in Akron, Ohio, to Lucille (Full) and Junior Maywood Durst. He married Debra English on May 21, 1988, in Langhorne, Pennsylvania.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Debra Durst; brother, Ken Durst; niece, Carrie Durst Franjesevic; nephew, Joe Durst; brothers-in-law, Dan (Sherra) English, Harold (Mieko) English, Robert (Liz) English, John (Cindy) English, and Richard English; as well as numerous grand and great-grand nieces and nephews; plus many additional extended family.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jerry Durst.

He honorably served our country in the United States Army Reserve. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in 1973 from Berry College in Mt. Berry, Georgia.

Ron dedicated more than 20 years of his professional career as an engineering manager with Woodbridge Corp. in Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania and St. Peters, Missouri. Prior to that and marking his introduction to southern Illinois, Ron transferred to Allen Industries in Herrin from Richmond, Virginia.

He enjoyed traveling, was a sports enthusiast-especially when it came to football and golf-and took great pride in caring for his home and rental property.
