Ronald L. (Ron) Ferguson, 80, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. He was born in Leesburg, FL on June 20, 1944. Although a quiet man who was often described as easy going and a calming presence, his dry sense of humor snuck into many conversations, even near the end.
A native Floridian, he grew up in Leesburg and graduated from Leesburg High School in 1962 where he loved playing football. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1965. After 3 tours in Vietnam, his was honorably discharged in 1969. In February of 1971, he married the love of his life, Patsy. He graduated from Florida State University in 1972 and remained an avid Nole fan. Ron's career journey with Department of Corrections (19 years) led the family to Tampa for a while, ultimately returning to Tallahassee. God led them to their church home, Thomasville Road Baptist Church, where he proudly sang bass for the men's ensemble, "Master's Men." He retired from the State of Florida after 39 years of dedicated service in 2011.
In 2012, Ron returned to the only place he felt was home, Lake County where they became active members of First Baptist Church of Mt. Dora.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother, George and Wilma Ferguson, his son, Ronald Craig Ferguson, his sister, Kay Ferguson McVay. He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years (almost 54, but who's counting) Patsy Chism Ferguson, his daughters, Christi Ferguson (Todd) O'Neal and Pam Ferguson Griner, his grandchildren, Connor Ferguson, Gage Griner, Cadence and Sean O'Neal, and his sister Nancy Ferguson Copeland.
Funeral to be held at Beyers Funeral Home, 1123 West Main Street, Leesburg, FL 34748 on Tuesday, January 14, 2025; Visitation 1:00-2:00pm, Service at 2:00pm. Internment immediately following at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 1901 CR 25A, Leesburg, FL 34748.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church of Mount Dora.
