Ronald Glenn Firestone, 77, entered his heavenly, eternal home on September 14, 2024. Born to H. Glenn and Neta Mae Firestone on July 10, 1947, he was preceded in death by his older brother, Dennis. Ron was a lifetime resident of Springfield, Missouri. He graduated from Glendale High School in 1965 and later graduated from Southwest Missouri State University (MSU).
Ron met the love of his life, Martha Cavender in 1968. They were to have celebrated 57 years of marriage on October 12, 2024. Completing their family were their greatest life-gifts, their three children: daughter Mary Ellen Colaizzi (David), and sons Nathan Firestone and Christopher Firestone.
Ron's pride and joy were his children. He loved seeing them achieve success in their endeavors. He enjoyed countless hours, watching them swim, supporting their diligence in practice and devotion to the sport, and seeing them succeed as Missouri State Champions.
A life-changing milestone for Ron was his decision to give his life to Jesus Christ at Kanakuk Camp, following his son Nathan's decision. Ron displayed that commitment and was baptized on February 1, 1998. Ron's faith was deep and his walk with Christ served as the foundation for his relationships and life-decisions.
Ron deeply loved his country. For 22 years he served in three branches of the military reserves. He was a proud member of the Marine Corps, the Army, and the Navy. Professionally, Ron worked at the Medical Center for Federal Prisoners in Springfield for 22 years; he also worked as a realtor for Carol Jones.
Prior to his recent health challenges, Ron and Martha loved to travel. Together they experienced and explored many parts of the world. With great appreciation for nature and the vast beauty crafted by their Creator. They traveled from coast to coast, visiting over thirty National Parks. He loved their little camper that they called their 'Tiny House.' Ron was a gentle soul with a fun loving and adventurous spirit; he loved researching and planning his travels with Martha. Together they built memories and shared adventures by traveling, exploring, camping, kayaking, hiking and cruising.
Ron's courageous battle with microscopic polyangiitis, a rare blood vessel disease, presented great challenges. Ever at his side, Martha's loving support was evidenced by her devotion through advocacy, relentless research, active presence, and tender care that led to Ron's comfort and ability to spend his final days at their Springfield home.
Grieving, yet rejoicing in the assurance of Ron's heavenly healing, are countless friends and his family. Family members Mary and Jerry Boyer (Springfield, MO), David and Dianne Cavender (St. Louis, MO), Richard and Jeanne Cavender (Rolla, MO), and Paula Firestone (Virginia Beach, VA).
Arrangements for Ron Firestone are under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, (1947 E Seminole St, Springfield, MO 65804), where visitation and his memorial will be held. Family visitation will be September 18, 2024, at 11:30 AM followed by a memorial service at 12:30 PM. A graveside and military honors ceremony will be held at Missouri Veteran's Cemetery September 18, 2024, at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Toys for Tots sponsored by the Marine Corps. Ron always loved purchasing toys for children at Christmastime, and he hopes you will too.
