Ronald Gardner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery Funeral Home on Feb. 24, 2026.
Ronald Ray Gardner, 84, of Cedar Rapids, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 22, 2026.

A visitation and service will be held at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids, IA. Friday, February 27, 2026, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m., with the service commencing at 11:00am.

Ron was born on July 4, 1941, in Cedar Rapids to Belle and Howard Gardner. In his youth, he had an outstanding football career at Jefferson High School and achieved notable accomplishments in track and field, particularly in the high hurdles. During the winter months, he excelled at ice racing at Ellis Park, and in the summers, he cherished time spent with his family at his parents' cabin.

Ron worked in the concrete industry for 30 years while also farming part-time. Farming was his true passion. He not only cared for his own farm in Mount Vernon but often lent a helping hand to farmer friends in neighboring communities.

In his later years, Ron became a member of Elks Lodge #251 in Cedar Rapids, where he coordinated the Veterans Leather Program. He collected and prepared donated deer hides from area hunters, which were crafted into wheelchair gloves and leather materials for veterans with disabilities.

He is survived by his daughter, Sally Miller; his son, Jeff (Hope) Gardner; his sisters, Barb Hosford, and Linda (Dan) Tyo; and his brother, Marvin (Cheryl) Gardner. He is also survived by six grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Gardner, and his parents, Belle and Howard Gardner.

Ron will forever live in the hearts of all who loved him.
