Ronald Burton Gearhart, 88, of Howard, OH, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2025, surrounded by his family at his home, in Howard. Ron was born August 5, 1936, in Columbus, Ohio to Joseph Burt and Florence {Rader} Gearhart.
He married Cheryl Kay Coffey on August 6, 1966. Cheryl passed away last September 3, 2024. Ron drove trucks for the county and worked as a mechanic for some years. He farmed grain and livestock for most of his life. When he retired, he continued restoring antique tractors. He attended many churches over the years, including Brandon Baptist, Martinsburg Church, Havens Corner, Church of Christ in Millwood and Rocky Fork, as well as Central Christian. Ron put on a corn roast each year and it became an annual hog roast that was well attended and developed many lifelong friendships. He learned to play the Dulcimer later in life and was part of a singing group for a while.
Special thanks to Gentiva Hospice staff, Lindsay, Jennifer, Julie, Debbie, and Sheila, Bill and Richard. Also, for assistant Cassie, Home Health Outreach, Julie, and Freedom Care Center, Ashley for their blessings to and care for Ron and his family. Many friends, especially Art, Brian, David, Don and Linda, Dee, Dave, Tonda, Keith, and Karin. -Words are not adequate for the blessing they have been.
Ron will be deeply missed by his children Maida (Kurt) Saylor, Doug (Julie) Gearhart, Tim (Sheila) Gearhart, Kimberly (Troxell) Grogg; grandchildren Christina, Scott, Stephanie, Brandon, Andrew, Tina, Abagail, Samuel, Sarah, Hannah, Nicole, Macy, Lyndsey, Lisa; great-grandchildren Tessa, Jase, Audrey, Lillian, Cana, Miyu, Issac, Anna, Sarah, Gretchen, Samual, Jack, Nathan, Carter, Anderson, Jace, Bennett, Gracelyn, Blake, Brooks, Sawyer; and his sister Anna (Bob) May Long. Ron was preceded in death by his parents and wife as well as his brother Vaughn.
Friends may call Friday May 16, 2025, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Mount Vernon Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Ken Springer officiating. Burial will be at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
