Ronald Hawes Obituary
With heavy hearts, we celebrate the extraordinary life of Ronald "Ronnie" Berry Hawes, who departed this world on August 22, 2025, at the age of 79. Born in Goldsboro, NC, Ronnie's journey ended in Wilmington, NC, leaving behind a legacy of creativity, inspiration, and devoted camaraderie.
For 45 years, Ronnie graced the halls of WECT Channel 6 News as an Art Director, where his artistic vision left an indelible mark. His dedication to his craft was something to behold, transforming ideas into vivid realities that informed and inspired those around him.
Outside of his career, Ronnie pursued his passions with fervor. He was a train and railroad model enthusiast, devoting countless hours to intricate projects, with "Glenville" standing out as a particularly cherished creation. His love for both the nautical and the celestial guided his hand in painting, where his detailed and extraordinary works depicted the majesty of space and sea.
A founding member of the Cape Fear Astronomical Society, Ronnie shared his yearning for the stars with fellow enthusiasts, reveling in the mysteries of the universe. His faith was equally important; as a dedicated member of Temple Baptist Church, he found community, solace, and spiritual growth among its congregation.
Ronnie's life was enriched by his steadfast relationships. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Albert Berry Hawes and Anna Lois Sanders, and his brothers, Glen Thomas Hawes and Albert Bryan Hawes. Left to cherish his memory are his niece, Jody, and her husband, Craig; his lifelong best friend, Alan Hilburn; cherished cousins Sheila Sanders, Patrick Sanders, and Kathy Korn of California; and his special neighbors, Cindy and Kirk. His beloved pets, Teddy and CowKitty, also remain part of his enduring legacy, a testament to his kindness and love.
While we mourn the loss of such a remarkable soul, let us celebrate the laughter, warmth, and creativity Ronnie shared generously with the world. May his spirit continue to inspire us all to pursue our passions wholeheartedly, embrace the beauty in life's details, "and all that".
