Ronald Charles Heagy Jr., 63, of Albany, Oregon, passed away February 27, 2026, at Albany General Hospital.
Ron was born March 18, 1962, in Ashland, Wisconsin, to Ronald C. Heagy Sr. and Theresa Buckmaster Heagy. In 1969, he moved with his family to Oregon, where he later graduated from Central Linn High School.
The day before his 18th birthday, Ron was involved in a surfing accident that left him paralyzed from the neck down. Though his life changed in an instant, Ron refused to allow his circumstances to define him. With remarkable determination and perseverance, he went on to attend college and earn a master's degree in psychology.
Ron became a motivational speaker and shared his story with thousands of people across the United States and internationally. He especially loved speaking at schools, encouraging young people to believe in themselves and to live with courage, purpose, and gratitude.
One of Ron's greatest dreams was to create a place where children with disabilities could experience the joy of summer camp. That dream became a reality when he founded Camp Attitude, located east of Sweet Home, Oregon, where children with disabilities could experience outdoor adventures, friendship, and independence.
Ron was also the author of two books about his life, Never Give Up and Life Is an Attitude. He discovered a passion for art and became a mouth painter. His artwork was featured on greeting cards, calendars, and framed prints enjoyed by people around the world.
Above all, Ron deeply loved The Lord Jesus and his daughters and he deeply treasured being their father.
He is survived by his beloved daughters, Roni Heagy and Gracie Heagy; his father, Ronald C. Heagy Sr. and Betty Heagy; his sister, Penny Culp (Ron); and his brother, Mike Heagy (Bobbi).
He was preceded in death by his mother, Theresa Heagy.
A Celebration of Life will be held April 11 at 2:00 p.m. at Hope Church, 2817 Santiam Highway SE, Albany, Oregon 97322.
