Michael W. Kirk

Michael W. Kirk, 74, of Halsey, went home to be with the Lord after a valiant battle with cancer.
The son of Raymond and Patricia (Chambers) Kirk, he was born in Albany. Mike attended Halsey grade school and graduated from Central Linn High School in 1969. He married Wendy Hickman on September 28th, 1974 in Roseburg. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2024.
It is with a heavy heart that Michael will be remembered, he comes from a long line of farmers. He took over the family farm in 1973 after the sudden death of his father. Mike and his son Joseph continued to farm on the family Century farm.
Mike is also a longtime volunteer with the Brownsville Fire Department, reaching the rank of captain. He has been with both Brownsville and Halsey Fire departments at different times. He held the rank of assistant chief while at Halsey. He first joined Brownsville Fire Dept in 1975, becoming one of the first paramedics.
A very special interest of Mike's was his involvement in the First Baptist Church of Brownsville. He was very involved in the ministry of the church being an elder. Mike went on several mission trips to Haiti and Mexico, he loved serving the Lord.
Mike is survived by his wife, Wendy; daughter, Michelle of Deadwood; son, Joseph (Mary) of Brownsville; grandchildren, Austin and Sawyer Kirk. He was preceded by his parents and sister, Susy Crowson.
A graveside service during Mike's interment will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
Then, the following week, First Baptist Church will hold an 11:00am service on Thursday, January 30, 2025.
