AUBURN-Ronald Joseph Hecker passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on April 4, 2024, at the age of 91. He was born in Lewiston on Feb. 4, 1933, a son of Herbert Carl Hecker and Denise Marie Thibodeau Hecker. He married Marilyn Louise Linehan on June 27, 1959. They raised 4 children and nurtured many grandchildren at their home in Lewiston.
Ron attended St. Joseph's Parochial School in Lewiston and graduated from Edward Little High School in 1950. Throughout his school years, he worked for Seavey's in Auburn. He later began a long career as the foreman at Anthoine Rubber Company until his retirement. He later worked at Hannaford Supermarket where everyone knew him as "Mr. Wonderful." which was his signature reply whenever asked how he was doing. He was involved in youth sports for many years as an umpire for Elliot Little League from 1979-1984, and president of the Lewiston High School Booster Club in 1985. He was an avid gardener and a grill master.
Ron was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Joseph's Church where he served as a Eucharistic minister and church lector. His deep faith, commitment, and devotion to the Catholic religion were a guiding force throughout his life. He lived a selfless life, always finding pleasure, through helping others.
His constant acts of kindness, generosity, and positivity, along with his incredible sense of humor have left a deep impact on all who have been blessed to know him.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn, whom he spent 64 wonderful years with, along with children, Ann Dillingham, Stephen Hecker, Eileen Ouellette, and Maureen Asadoorian. Son-in-laws, Russell Dillingham, Jacob Ouellette, and Derek Asadoorian. Grandchildren, Ryan Dillingham, Kevin Dillingham, Christopher Dillingham, Ace Asadoorian, Owen Asadoorian, and Anna Ouellette.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Mona Hecker, Rose Marie Hecker Hinkle, Gloria Donovan; brothers, Herbert Hecker Jr., Gerard Hecker, Francis Hecker, Michael Hecker and, Joseph Hecker. He is survived by his brother Anthony Hecker (Luzuiminda Torres).
Ron's devotion to faith was only surpassed by his commitment to his wife Marilyn, his children, and his grandchildren. He set the bar high for what the true meaning of life is all about.
Condolences and fond memories of Ron may be shared on his memorial page at www.albert-burpee.com.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, April 26, at 11 AM at Holy Family Church on Sabattus Street, with committal prayers and burial immediately following the service at Mount Hope Cemetery.
