Ron Hugo, 80, passed away on August 10, 2025, at the Veteran's Home of Wyoming in Buffalo. He was born on December 28, 1944, in Butte, Montana, where he grew up and attended local schools, later graduating from high school and the Vo-Tech Center in Butte.

In May of 1967, Ron enlisted in the United States Navy, completing Radioman A School before being stationed aboard the USS Bennington (CVS-20) as a radioman and teletype operator. His service took him to Japan, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Thailand, Australia, and Hawaii. A highlight of his naval career was being on board during the recovery of the Apollo spacecraft six hundred miles northwest of Hawaii in November 1967.

Ron had a deep love for travel and exploration. Over the years, he toured the country extensively and even worked for the Anaconda Company and later the British Petroleum Company, which took him to various places across the globe. In 2014, Ron embarked on a world journey that included travel to Germany, Egypt, Turkey, Greece, Israel, Jordan, Russia, and beyond. He visited six continents and over thirty countries during his lifetime.

Ron enjoyed hiking in the mountains near his childhood home and cherished time spent exploring new places. He was proud to be a resident of the Veterans Home of Wyoming in his later years and valued the friendships he made there.

A graveside service honoring the life of Ronald will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Willow Grove Cemetery. Military Honors will be rendered in recognition of his service to our country.

Donations in Ron's name may be made to the Veteran's Home of Wyoming at 700 Veteran's Lane, Buffalo, Wyoming 82834.
