Ronald Charles Jones, 93, passed away peacefully at his home, on Thursday, October 27, 2022 of natural causes. Ron was born in Provo, Utah on September 13, 1929 to William Charles and Vera Mower Jones. He was the second of six children. He spoke often of his childhood memories and the games he loved playing, especially shooting marbles. He said he was pretty good at it. The Jones family remained in Provo until Ron's second year of Junior High, when they moved to Salt Lake City, to their home on Atkin Avenue.
Ron's first love was baseball. He pitched for the South High School baseball team, his junior year, where they won the State Championship. Ron attended the University of Utah for one year before going to work, full time in construction, for Gibbons & Reed.
On November 26, 1949 Ron married his sweetheart, Johanna Suzzanna Hofman. Because of Johanna's very Dutch Mother thinking Ron wasn't good enough for her daughter, he whisked Johanna off to Elko, Nevada for the wedding! The marriage was soon after, solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. The couple made their first home in Salt Lake City.
Ron later started his own construction business, R.C. Jones and Company. Ron and Johanna built their first home in Holladay, where they lived for 14 years, before moving to Alpine, Utah. After retiring from the construction business, they spent a number of years team- selling Real Estate in Alpine. Ron's life was centered around his family and his faith. As a young father, his service in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints as a Stake missionary, was a defining time in his life. He was blessed and happy to serve in many other capacities in the Church, some of which were: Counselor in bishoprics, counselor and then Stake President in the Alpine Utah Stake, a Regional Representative, a Sealer in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple, and as Alpine Stake Patriarch. He and his wife also served as missionaries, for one year, in Peoria, Illinois. As Grandpa Jones, he was famous for his reading of Brer Rabbit & The Tar Baby and for his love of Root Beer, Creamies, and chocolate.
Ron is survived by his six children, Suzzanna Greer; Terry (Heather); Will Scott (Patti); Julie (Bradley) Bateman; Alan (Tracie); John (Denece); 28 grandchildren and 75 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Gordon (Judy) Jones; brother-in-law Robert Harman and sisters-in-law, Haddie Fagg; Anna (Rex) Dahl. The family would like to thank the many caregivers for the love they shared and kindness they showed for Ron, especially his granddaughter, Sadie Wallace.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 from 11:45-1:45pm, at the Alpine 8th Ward chapel, 900 North Main Street, Alpine, Utah 84004 immediately followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Alpine City Cemetery.Join from a PC, Mac, iPad, iPhone or Android device: Please click this URL to join. https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83451401031?pwd=TC9KKzMwZFdNOWY2MHR3eHFSalhSZz09Passcode: 748235
