It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our father Ronald J. Kirsch, a man of remarkable generosity and faith. He passed away peacefully on January 7, 2026, in
Parma, Ohio. Born on November 20, 1935, in Nicktown, Pennsylvania, Ron's life was characterized by his dedication to his family, his work, and his love for sports. He was the beloved husband of the late Rita (nee Angert) and a nurturing father to Cheryl Gabanic (John), Dale Kirsch (Mai), Denise Kirsch (Nick), and the late Tom Kirsch. Ronald was a cherished grandfather to David, Katie, Jeremy, Jessica, Maureen, and Melanie, and a proud great-grandfather to nine great-grandchildren.
Ron grew up in the close-knit community of Nicktown and graduated as class president from Spangler High School. He carried the leadership skills and charisma from his youth into his adult life, excelling both in his education at Penn State University and in his career. Ron began his professional journey as an apprentice draftsman at NASA Lewis in
Cleveland, OH and, through his exceptional skill and dedication, advanced to become a Mechanical Designer. He concluded his distinguished career as a Structural Design Branch Chief, leaving a lasting impact through his work at the space agency. He mentored students interested in a career at NASA. Even after a fulfilling 35-year career, he was invited to continue as a contractor, sharing his wealth of knowledge and experience. He received many awards throughout his career.
His Catholic Christian faith was the cornerstone of his life. Ron was a charter member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, in Sheffield Lake where he made a home for his family for over 60 years, where he was actively involved, offering his time and talents to his church family. He was a man who believed in the value of community and was always ready to lend a hand to those in need.
Ron's passion for sports was evident throughout his life. He excelled in baseball, basketball, golf, and enjoyed bowling in a league with friends from church. He was even invited to play baseball twice with the Pittsburgh Pirates-a testament to his athletic prowess. Despite the honor, he chose a path that would provide for his family, a decision that epitomized his character. He continued to be engaged in sports, playing with his NASA co-workers on softball and basketball teams, and coaching CYO basketball teams. Ron was not just a player but a leader, inspiring those around him with his dedication and spirit. His enthusiasm extended to being a devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, cheering them on through every season.
Beyond sports, Ron had a love for the simple pleasures of life. He found solace and joy in his vegetable garden, believing that it was most practical growing plants that he and his family could eat. This philosophy reflected his practical nature and his desire to provide for and nurture those he loved.
Ron is survived by his siblings Sister Celine Marie RSM, Reginald Kirsch (late Betty), Zelda Ochocki (Tom), Marilyn Kirsch (late Frank), and predeceased by Shirley McNulty (late Chuck), Marjorie Smego (surviving Paul), Maxine Bender (late Mike), and Fr. Myron Kirsch OSB. He was also a loving uncle and great-uncle to many, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and strength.
Described by those who knew him as faith-filled, generous, and thoughtful, Ron Kirsch will be deeply missed by all. His memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him, as his life's story is one of unwavering commitment to his family, his faith, and his community. Ron's life was a testament to the enduring power of love, and the indelible mark one person can leave on the world.
