Ronald Sloan Lewis, born December 20, 1947 in
Madisonville, TN, died April 23, 2023 in
Knoxville, TN. Ron was raised in Madisonville and graduated from Madisonville High School in 1965. After graduating from high school, Ron attended Hiwassee College for 2 years, where he met his wife Cheryl, and then attended and graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in industrial engineering. After graduation and the wedding, he and Cheryl then moved to
Kingsport, Tennessee, where he worked at Tennessee Eastman as an engineer for eight years while also simultaneously obtaining his Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee. He also served his country in the National Guard for six years. He then with his wife's blessing and two young children chose to take a new career path and moved to Knoxville in 1978 to attend and then graduate from the University of Tennessee Law School. After a short time in private legal practice, Ron began work in the Knox County District Attorney's office in 1982, where he served as an assistant District Attorney for thirty-three years until his retirement in 2015. During his work career, Ron served his community and Knox County in a variety of roles, including his roles as felony crime prosecutor, grand jury prosecutor, juvenile court prosecutor, and being the first ever Knox County DUI prosecutor. Ron fiercely protected the community, his family, and those he cared about, was known as a man of his word and integrity, and set an example for his family that will echo for generations.
He was preceded in death by his parents JR and Betty Lewis of
Madisonville, Tennessee. He is survived by his siblings, Tina Spradlin (the late Bill Spradlin), Bill Lewis, and Jeff Lewis (Beth), and many loving cousins and nieces/nephews. In addition, Ron is survived by his loving wife Cheryl, to whom he was married for 54 years, and his two children and their spouses: Brad Lewis (Cary) and Cara Foster (Eric). In addition, Ron had seven grandchildren: Will (Channing), Addie, Collin, Tate, Janie, Ellie, and Griffin. His family loved to travel, explore, laugh, and tell stories with "B", and he loved and engaged in whatever his grandchildren pursued. Ron was a Christian role model and testimony to his children and grandchildren in faith, marriage, steadfastness, his sense of humor, and his selfless servanthood.
The funeral service will be on Saturday April 29 at 2:00 PM followed by receiving of friends from 2:45 until 4:30 PM, both at the Rose Mann Heritage Chapel at 6200 Kingston Pike,
