Ronald "Monk" McFarland

Of North Braddock, age 79, passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2021.

Beloved husband of the late Catherine "Kitty" McFarland, who died in 2018.

Loving father of Patty (David) Andrychowski and Daniel (Joann) Lindh.

Cherished grandfather of Lauren Andrychowski and Matthew and Nathaniel Lindh.

Dear brother of Harry (Mary) McFarland and Nancy (Harry) Platt.

Uncle of Robert "R.J.", Brian, and Brent McFarland and Wayne Pennington.

Monk was a 1960 graduate of North Braddock Scott High School. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and a lifelong member of the North Braddock Volunteer Fire Department. Monk was an active member of the VFW Post #5008 in East Pittsburgh, where he was known for his outgoing personality. He worked as a clerk for the Westinghouse Trafford plant for over 20 years. Monk then began to work as a clerk for Waverly Auto Parts in Swissvale. He enjoyed listening to drum and bugle music and would travel to attend concerts throughout western Pennsylvania. In his earlier years, Monk was an avid golfer and bowled at the Terrace Lanes in East Pittsburgh. Monk was also a fan and former season ticket holder of the Pittsburgh Penguins. He treasured taking trips to Las Vegas with Kitty and attending family picnics and gathering around the holidays.

Friends welcome Sunday from 2-6 p.m. at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home & Crematory; 1111 Monroeville Ave.; Turtle Creek, PA 15145; (412) 823-9350, where a Blessing Service and presentation of Military Honors will be held Sunday at 6 p.m. Masks will be required in the funeral home.

Monk will be laid to rest in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies on Thursday at 2 p.m.
