Ronald Eli Mestan, 82, the youngest of 9 children, was born on August 17, 1940 in Lincolnville, Kansas, to Steve G. Mestan and Anna Slavik Mestan. Ron died February 1, 2023, in Springfield, Missouri, following a year long illness.
Ron enlisted in the Marines after high school and served for four years. He then went to chiropractic college in Lombard, Illinois. It was there that he met his wife, Patti Prorok. They were married on August 22, 1964. Ron became a doctor of chiropractic, and in 1969, the family moved to Lebanon to start a practice. Ron practiced in Lebanon until he retired in 2005. He loved his career and helping people. During his lifetime, he enjoyed being with family and friends. For many years, he worked with horses as a hobby and competed in endurance riding. He also enjoyed photography, working out, smoking a good cigar, working in his yard and being on the river. Ron could carry on a conversation with anyone. He was witty and had a great sense of humor, often laughing as much at what he said as did those who were listening. We will all miss that.
Ron is survived by his wife Patti, and his four children; Lisa and her husband Jeff Riggs, Mike and his wife Jill, Kerri and her husband Doug Gibson, and Dana and her husband Kent DeMartini; 6 grandchildren, Kailee and her husband Brian King, Alec, Ben, Mitchell, Olivia and Branson; and 3 great grandchildren, Samuel, Eleanor and Jaxton; his brother Vic and his wife Judy, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Ron will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been suggested to Wagons for Warriors or OATS Transit. Donations can be left at or mailed to Shadel's Colonial Chapel, P.O. Box 948 or 1001 N. Lynn.
A celebration of life is planned later this year for Ron. His body is to be cremated under direction of Shadel's Colonial Chapel.

September 17, 2023

Today is September 17, 2023, and I just saw this sad news today. I went to high school with Ron and was a year ahead in the Class of 1958. Let me just say that Ron participated in a variety of "capers" back in the day. All fun loving things though. He was a good friend and we last met up at his 50th reunion in Wellington. I send my condolences to all his friends and family. He will be missed by all who knew him.
