It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald (Ron) Michels on January 28, 2025. Surrounded by his loving family at home, he passed away at the age of 65 after a courageous battle with ALS.
Ronald Jerome Michels was born on October 17, 1959, in Cando, North Dakota, to Elmer and Mamie Michels. The youngest of seven siblings, Ron grew up in a loving home where hard work and sports played a central role in his childhood. Whether working on the farm, helping his dad at the school, or playing sports, he approached every experience with passion and dedication.
Ron graduated from Bisbee High School, where he met his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Debbie. After high school, he attended North Dakota State School of Science before moving to the Twin Cities. In 1980, he began his career at Perkin Elmer, now known as Physical Electronics, where he dedicated over 35 years of service. On June 27, 1981, Ron and Debbie were united in marriage, settling in Chanhassen, MN, where they built a beautiful life together and raised their three children: Nicki, Matt, and Jeff. They lived in Chanhassen until 2021, when they built their home in Carver, MN.
Ron had a deep love for sports, whether coaching his children, playing softball and golf, or cheering on his beloved Green Bay Packers and New York Yankees. One of the highlights of his summers was the annual golf tournament in Hinckley with friends. Despite his competitive spirit, he was known for his kindness and sense of humor, welcoming everyone-even Vikings fans-with open arms.
Above all, Ron's greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandpa who cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. He made friends wherever he went, forming lifelong connections through his warmth and generosity.
In December 2020, Ron was diagnosed with ALS and given a prognosis of six months to a year. True to his nature, he fought with unwavering determination, giving his family and friends four more years of treasured memories. Throughout his battle, he found strength in the love and support of those around him, especially his devoted wife, Debbie.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Mamie; his brothers, Bill and Baby Boy Michels; his sisters, Patricia and Peggy; his nephews, Chad and Jay; his great-nephew, Owen; and his beloved dog, Stitch.
He is survived by his loving family: his wife of 43 years, Debbie; his daughter, Nicki (Nick) Storm; his sons, Matt (Cayla) Michels and Jeff Michels; his grandchildren, Aidan, Peyton, Piper, Mila, Tatum, Liv Storm, and Graylind Michels; his brothers, Tom (Jolinda), Dan (Linda), and Al; and many other relatives and dear friends.
Memorials may be given to the ALS Association, St Hubert Catholic School or Holy Family High School

Ron was a family man and just a good guy. True to his family and who he was with a strong work ethic and a good values. Our boys have been friends since they met in high school. I only have good memories of Ron and his Deb, who has been his rock and love. Ron, may your light shine on through your family and all the wonderful memories we have of you. Blessings and hugs to your family. I am sorry that Ron had to suffer so much as ALS is a horror to endure.
