Ron Nickel, 88, of Cave Creek AZ passed away peacefully at home on September 25, 2025 after a life of hard work, good family & friends and endless stories.

Ron was born in Moline, IL on October 16, 1936 to Orville and Lois Nickel. He grew up on a Wisconsin farm in Waukesha County where his love of nature, hunting & fishing and power equipment were forever ingrained in his heart. Working was life to Ron, often holding down 2 or 3 jobs from sun up to sun down. One of his many joys was owning and operating Sanitary Transfer and Landfill. His biggest reward was working and spending time with the employees as they became a second family to him. He also had a land development operation, building an 80-acre business park in Delafield and 5 residential sites in Waukesha County. In the late 1980's he lived between Dubois, WY and Scottsdale, AZ where he was again involved with earthmoving equipment and several projects. Retirement introduced him to Montana prairie dog hunting with his brother, volunteering at the church with the landscaping maintenance, playing cards and tinkering in his barn.

Ron married Joan Carter Nickel in 1956 who proceeded him in death in 1999. In November 2001 he married Jan Pagel Nickel, who survives.

Survivors besides his wife Jan are his son Jeff (Wendy) Nickel and his daughter Jody Sims (Jeff), her children Carter (Monica) Luko and Ron Luko and their respective families. Also, two step-sons, Ben (Tracy) Costa and Joel Costa and their children. He was proceeded in death by his parents and brothers Jerry, Dennis and Tim.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life and burial in Summit Cemetery Oconomowoc, WI will be held at a later date. As his friendships spread across the country, he asked that his memory be celebrated in personal reflection of your time together and the laughter that was shared. He asked that any memorials be given to [email protected] or mail to 6300 E. Bell Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85254 for the landscaping & maintenance of the prayer garden and grounds.
