Ronald A. Olender, age 83 of Jackson, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 15, 2025. Born in New Brunswick, he had grown up in South River. He was a graduate of South River High School in 1960 where he was an avid baseball player and excelled in track and field.
In his early years he grew to love Ham radios and became proficient at morse code. He attended Middlesex County College and was hired in at The American Telephone & Telegraph company in Lawrenceville. He then joined the United States Navy and served on the destroyer, the USS Alfred A. Cunningham from 1962-1966 where he served part of the Vietnam War.
Ronald married the love of his life Constance in 1970 at St. Mary Ostrabrama RC Church in South River where he was a past communicant. They moved to Howell NJ for roughly 50 years where they raised their family. His biggest pride and joy in life was his children. He was very involved with his children. He enjoyed coaching his son Ronnie in Little League baseball, enjoyed all his son Michael's performances at his plays and was his daughter Amy's biggest fan and support.
Before his retirement, Ronald worked as a telecommunications technician for AT&T for 40 years. He was a proud member and past president of the OMARC Radio Club and the Knights of Columbus in Jackson. He loved Ham radios, model railroading and fishing and was also an avid reader.
He is predeceased by his wife Constance, his parents Alexander and Mary, his sister Ann Marie Puchala and brother-in-law Teddy Puchala.
Surviving are his beloved children Amy Jarmusik and her husband Michael (Charleston), Michael Olender (Little Egg Harbor), Ronald Olender and his wife Cathy (Manahawkin), his grandchildren Chelsea and Curtis, his sister Claire Olender (South River) and many other loving family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be held on Wednesday from 4pm until 8pm.
Funeral services will be Thursday 9:30am from the M.A. Maliszewski Funeral Home 218 Whitehead Ave, South River with a 10:00am funeral Mass at St. Mary of Ostrabrama RC Church in South River. A burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in East Brunswick.
