Ronald Gail Payne Sr., lovingly known to many as "Rabbit Dog," passed away peacefully at his home in Marceline, Missouri, on August 9, 2025, at the age of 84.

Born October 26, 1940, in Chariton County, Missouri, Ronnie was the son of Jim Payne and Verle (McGowan) Payne. He grew up with a love for the land and people around him, living a life rooted in hard work, family, and simple joys.

A proud farmer, Ronnie worked the land with dedication and skill, finding meaning in the rhythm of the seasons. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, tinkering on trucks and machinery, and spending time with his family and friends-often with a Budweiser in hand and a story to tell. His down-to-earth nature and easy humor left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Ronnie was united in marriage to Judith A. (Blakley) Payne on April 21, 1973. Together, they built a life full of love, family gatherings, and treasured memories.

He is survived by his children, Karen Phillips and Ron (Georgia) Payne; his sister, Sharon Dickerson; ten grandchildren-Markus (Jessica) Phillips, Travis (Skye) Phillips, Trevor (Miguel) Phillips, Drew Murie, Tristin Murie, Brendon (Addison Engberg) Catron, Logan Smith, Isabella Payne, Tyler (Lexi Flowers) Curley, and Bree (Aldon) Stephenson; and great-grandchildren Eleanor, Hallie, Lucille, Maylee, Trenton, Harvalee, and Colter.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents; His Wife, Judith Payne; daughter, Joyce Baker; son-in-law, Darrell Phillips; brothers, Dale, Bobby, and Billy; and sisters, Peggy and Elizabeth.

Visitation beginning at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at Delaney Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at Locke Cemetery South of Marceline, MO.
