SALEM - Ronald L. Poage passed away at the age of 81 on June 9, 2025, in Salem, OH. His life was one of service, love, and joy, and he will be remembered for his strength and kindness. Born on April 5, 1944, in Marlinton, WV, Ron was the son of the late Henry O. and Margaret (Weatherholt) Poage.
Following his graduation from United Local High School in 1962, he served his country with honor in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, aboard the U.S.S. Oriskany aircraft carrier. After his military service, Ron continued to contribute to his community, becoming a lifetime member of the Salem V.F.W. Post 892 and dedicating 34 years to the Perry Township Zoning Appeals Board.
Ron worked as an installer/repairman at Sprint Telephone Co. for 35 years.
Ron loved classic automobiles, gardening, traveling and motor sports. He was an avid card player and an outdoorsman at heart.
Ron's legacy is carried on by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Brenda (Kellison) Poage, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage. He was a proud father to his son, Stuart (Stacey) Poage of Tallahassee, FL, and grandfather to Alexa Poage of Dallas, TX, and Ryan Poage of Auburn, AL.; nephews, Gary and Larry Poage, and nieces, Renee Chocklett and Ronda Swanson.
Ron was preceded in death by his three brothers, Dewey, Bobby, and Henry.
His absence will be deeply felt, but the imprint he left on the lives of those he touched will endure forever.
Private services will be held to honor Ron's life and legacy. He will be laid to rest at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton, WV, with full military honors.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Lunne for his great care of Ron.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Perry Township Police or Fire Dept., 2198 N. Ellsworth Ave., Salem, OH 44460.
Arrangements are being handled by Stark Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
Ron's obituary can be viewed on the Stark Memorial website, where friends and relatives can also send their condolences and share their memories of a man whose life was a testament to service, family, and the simple joys that make a life well-lived.
