Virgil Kenneth Poage, 83, of Bowling Green, MO. and formerly of Bremen, GA. passed away December 7th, 2024 at Monroe City Manor Care Center in Monroe City, MO.
The Hightower Funeral Home in Bremen, GA provided for the burial of his cremated remains on January 8th, 2025 at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Bremen, GA.
Virgil was born September 14, 1941 in Hannibal, MO. to Jesse Lee and Ruth Iola Dickensheets Poage. He married Rebecca Sue Hawkinson of Center, MO. in November, 1960. Three children were born of this union, Ginger Poage Blasdell (Steve), Marlan Poage (Janet), and Adam Poage (Cheri).
Virgil remarried Patricia Irene Hall of Fulton, IL. in August, 1974. who had two children from a previous marriage, Gayle Rose (Steve) and Michael Hall (Jeanette).
Survivors include his brother, David (Paula) Poage, his daughter, Ginger Poage Blasdell, sons, Marlan (Janet) Poage and Adam (Cheri) Poage, stepson Mike (Jeanette) Hall, grandchildren, Wiley (Autumn) Blasdell, Emily Huizenga, Sarah (Preston) Elliott-Moore, Randall (Samantha) Poage, Justin Pruitt, Macaley (Don) Johnson, Samuel Poage, Sally Dersham, Jeremy Rose, Eric (Sandy) Hall, Aaron (Jeanine) Hall, including 15 great grandchildren, many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Virgil was preceded in death by his wife Patricia, stepdaughter Gayle and (Steve) Rose, son in law Steven Earl Blasdell, parents Jesse Lee and Ruth Iola Dickensheets Poage, sister Erma Ruth Poage and (Paul Thomas) Hibbard, brother Jesse Eugene and (Connie) Poage,
Virgil was employed by International Harvester in East Moline, IL. for many years and over the course of his 35 (plus) years career he also worked for International Harvester / Navistar in Oklahoma, Ohio, Florida, and Georgia. He retired to Bremen, GA. and after the passing of his wife in 2008, he eventually moved back to his home state of Missouri.
Virgil loved the great outdoors and found solace in the simplicity of nature. He was an enthusiastic and very successful hunter and fisherman, often found with a fishing rod or hunting rifle in hand taking in the tranquility of nature. His hands were skilled in the art of carpentry, creating beauty from wood with the same patience he applied to all aspects of his life.
Virgil's enjoyment of reading was rooted in the pages of his Bible and the dusty trails of old westerns, reflecting his deep faith and fondness for bygone eras. Though a man of few words, his warmth and humor were a comfort to all who knew him. Above all, Virgil cherished his Faith in God and family.
