I met Ron at Ben Lomond High School and hit it off due to our "absurd" sense of humor. A few years later we met again at Weber State College in ROTC. Before that, Ron enlisted in the US Army Special Forces and ended up in the 19th Group, while I became a 13 Bravo/Cannoneer. We both reconnected due to our love of the country and duty to serve it. Or as Ron said, "We like big guns." After a while, we became roommates at the "home for wayward cadets or lieutenants." Most of our neighbors liked us because we helped around the neighborhood due to we were young, strong, and easy to bribe with free food. Some of our neighbors did not like that we drank beer in the front yard while listening to AC/DC. Once Ron put "Back in Black" on pretty loud at 3:00 am. I told my girlfriend at the time "The Ogden Police Department should be here in 15 minutes due to Harvey G---- calling them in on Ron," and lo and behold, a funny situation started, looking back 38 years, happened. Ron showed why you did not mess with somebody who holds a black belt Kenpo. Ron knew how to dish out the hate, but he was a friend who would go down for you. During field exercises, Ron could inspire a a bunch of cherry soldiers to march five miles in the field and spring an ambush in a training exercise that had all the training NCOs chuckling and saying "Time to redo since you wiped the opposing forces too quickly." I will remember Ron with a saying from General Mathis: "No better friend, no worse enemy." Drink a pint in Fiddlers Green for me Ron. God bless and now you can rest in peace, brother.
