Ronald "Ron" Dee Layman, aged 85, of Marysville, KS, passed away on May 28, 2025, at his home.
A funeral service was held at 6 p.m., Sunday, June 1, at Kinsley Mortuary. Visitation took place one hour prior to the service. The family was present to receive friends.
Pastor Doug Delhay officiated the service. The musicians were Bryan and Ashley Kracht, and the selections included "I Can Only Imagine" and "Jealous of the Angels."
The pallbearers were Joe Krogman, Eric Layman, Amy Krogman, Bret Layman, Bob Wilkinson, and Logan Wilkinson.
Burial followed at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 2, at Wyuka Funeral Home and Cemetery in Lincoln, NE.
Ron was born on November 8, 1939, in Grand Island, NE, to Milton and Dorothy (Hickman) Layman. He graduated from Westminster High School in Westminster, CO. Soon after, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving a tour of duty in Kitzingen, Germany. Following his honorable discharge, Ron moved to Lincoln, NE.
In Lincoln, he held various jobs—working for Wonder Bread, driving a city bus, and later traveling the United States and Canada as a tour bus driver for Continental Trailways. On September 4, 1965, Ron and Dianah “Dee” Delhay were united in marriage. They were blessed with three daughters.
The couple lived in Lincoln for many years before relocating to Marysville in 2001. There, Ron drove a school bus, worked at Head Start—where he was affectionately known as "Captain Ron"—and became THE beloved Walmart greeter whom everyone knew and cherished.
Ron never met a stranger. He had a genuine love for people, conversation, laughter, and life. A devoted sports fan, he proudly cheered on the Chiefs, Royals, and Huskers. Whether chatting at “Coffee-Down” with a cup of coffee or enjoying a Diet Coke, Ron enjoyed every moment.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and brother, Larry Layman.
Survivors include his wife, Dee; daughters, Sherry Layman, Lincoln, NE, Amy (Joe) Krogman, Marysville and Joy Wilkinson, Marysville; grandchildren, Jammie Layman, Las Vegas, NV, Molly Denton, TX, Logan, Ryleigh, Morgan and Kendra Wilkinson, all of Marysville; and two great grandchildren, Luke and Amari.
A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary, P.O. Box 147, Marysville, KS 66508.
